Nike’s 2017 Black History Month Collection of Basketball Shoes and More
The annual Nike Black History Month collection will be available this month. Throughout history, athletes have constantly broken barriers, therefore, leading to social equality. Nike’s Black History Month (BHM) collection originally started with the Air Force 1 and has grown to a vast assortment of products. The message of honoring talented African-American athletes shifted to celebrating overall Black heritage. Another grand evolution of Nike’s BHM message is using sports to encourage community action and create positive growth.
Highlighting the assortment are the signature basketball shoes are the Lebron 14, Kyrie 3, and KD 9. The Lebron 14 and Kyrie 3 will be available in men and youth sizes. Several shoes in the collection incorporate black and white marbling which represent the power of harmony. Gold accentuates the shoes to reflect the aspiration of unity and empowerment.
In addition, the holder of 23 Grand Slam titles Serena Williams, has her shoe the Nike Flare is in this collection. The Nike Lunar Epic and Jordan Trunner are also included.
Keeping the original BHM collection alive are the Air Force 1 for men, an AF1 Upstep for women and a special edition Air Jordan 1s for men and youth.
The 2017 BHM apparel includes the MVP jacket and pant and EQUALITY Tee for men and women. The EQUALITY tee contributes to Nike’s commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
The Black History Month collection helps provide financial support to Nike’s Ever Higher Fund. The program provides mentorship and sport to youth and their communities. Nike’s also partners with the Jackie Robinson Foundation, Boys and Girls Clubs, National Head Start, Coach Across America, MENTOR and PeacePlayers International.
The 2017 Nike BHM collection releases February 16 at Nike.com and select retailers in North America. The Jordan Brand’s trio of shoes launches February 11.
